Hyde Park - Grace E. Cole, 92, a 60 year resident of Hyde Park and formerly of Poughkeepsie, died Saturday, January 25, 2014, at Vassar Bros. Med Center.
Born October 25, 1921 in Bangall, NY, she was the daughter of the late Willard and Melissa Hunt Place.
A homemaker, Grace was a member of St. James' Episcopal Church, Hyde Park, serving on the Altar Guild and the Outreach Committee.
She loved to crochet, read, garden, and grow beautiful roses. Her greatest joy was spending time with her family, especially her grandchildren.
On March 25, 1939 in Poughkeepsie, she married William R. Cole. Her husband predeceased her on January 9, 2007.
Grace is survived by her daughter, Patricia Caswell and husband, Dean, of Hyde Park; son, Stephen Cole and wife, Yvonne, of Red Hook; grandchildren, Elizabeth Caswell Canevari and husband, John, of Pawling, Jennifer Caswell Oppenheim and husband, William, of Hopewell Junction, Joshua Cole and wife, Melissa, of Wilton, CT, Rachael (Cole) Hangac and husband Michael, of Milan; great-grandchildren Gianna, Nicholas, Maryrose, and Jack Canevari; Hannah, Olivia, and Samuel Oppenheim, Govanna Cole, Kassandra Miller, and Maximillian Hangac, as well as many nieces and nephews.
Grace is survived by siblings, Anna Tompkins, Marion (Honey) Ong, and Richard Place. In addition to her husband and parents, she was predeceased by her brothers James, Charles, William, and George; and sisters, Fannie Ferris, Lillian Robinson, and Mary Jane Wilkinson.
Calling hours will be 4:00 PM to 7:00 PM on Thursday, January 30, at Sweet's Funeral Home, Inc., Rte. 9, Hyde Park.
A Funeral Service will be 11:00 AM on Friday, January 31, 2014 at St. James' Episcopal Church Rte. 9, Hyde Park, Rev. Chuck Kramer officiating.
Burial will follow in the family plot at St. James Churchyard, Hyde Park, NY.
