Staatsburg - Alfred E. Smith, 90, of Staatsburg, died on Saturday, February 8, 2014, at Northern Dutchess Hospital in Rhinebeck after a brief illness.
Born March 26, 1923 in Hyde Park, he was the son of the late William Henry Smith and Phoebe L. Morse Smith.
He graduated from the former Staatsburg Union Free School, and proudly served in the United States Navy as a Signal Man 2nd Class during World War II. He was Past Chief of Dinsmore Hose Co. in Staatsburg during the 1950's. He was also an avid fisherman.
Mr. Smith worked for Brenner, Fitchett, and Dairylea Milk Companies for over twenty years.
Survivors include his sister, Helen Farley of Wappingers Falls; brother, Charles Smith and wife, Pat, of Hyde Park; daughter, June Reshenberg and husband, Gary, of Oshkosh, WI; three sons, Allan D. Smith and wife, Janet, of Hurley, Gerald Smith and wife, Sue, of Kingston, and Gary Smith of Staatsburg; and many grandchildren, great grandchildren, nieces, and nephews.
In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by ten brothers and sisters.
There are no calling hours.
In keeping with his wishes, cremation will take place at the convenience of the family.
