Sheila grew up on Long Island and initially attended Hofstra University. Years later she returned to college at Dutchess Community, went on to Marist College, where she earned her bachelor's degree and enrolled in Fordham University's Masters of Social Work program, and graduated with honors.

She joined the staff of Highland Elementary School in 1991 where she practiced her social work skills with the children to whom she was devoted. Sheila worked with other school staff to implement social and holiday programs for the benefit of both students and parents in need. She retired in June of 2012. Sheila made many cherished friends through her work in Highland, as well as in the Fishkill community.

Sheila is survived by her beloved husband Dennis, her sons, William and Matthew, and her grandchildren. William and his wife Jean reside in Verbank and have a lovely daughter, Lauren Avery, aged two and a half.
