Robert F. Malinovsky Sr. Obituary
Robert F. Malinovsky, Sr.

POUGHKEEPSIE - Robert Francis (Bob) Malinovsky passed away peacefully at home on Saturday, March 1, 2014 with his family around him. Born on September 4, 1924 in Little Neck, New York, he was a graduate of Bayside High School and Kent State University. As a proud member of The Greatest Generation, he served his country honorably during World War II in the Army Air Force from July 1943 to December 1945, including active duty in the European theatre as a navigator.

On July 14, 1951 he married Joan Fitzgerald in St. Anastasia Roman Catholic Church in Douglaston, New York. Bob had just begun working at IBM and together they raised seven children in Long Island, eventually relocating to Poughkeepsie. Bob was an engineer with IBM until his retirement in 1986. He was an avid Yankee fan who was looking forward to #2's return to the field. He also enjoyed many years as a Marist Red Fox Club member, cheering the team on year after year.

In addition to Mrs. Malinovsky, Bob is survived by his sister, Mrs. Mary Deveau of Riverhead, NY (an avid Met fan), and his children, Robert and Debbie Malinovsky of Poughkeepsie; Phil Malinovsky and Lisa Morris of Poughkeepsie; Mark and Lisa Malinovsky of Walkertown, NC; Richard Malinovsky of Seattle, WA; Joanne and Scott Arneberg of Myrtle Beach, SC; and David Malinovsky of Poughkeepsie. Bob's pride and joy were his grandchildren--Melissa Malinovsky, Jodi and Adam Harris, Ashley Malinovsky, Tanya Malinovsky, and Shelby, Lindsey, Wendy and Robert (Bobby) Arneberg. The last two years brought him much joy with the arrival of his great-grandson, Lucas. Bob was predeceased by his parents, Frances and Ferdinand Malinovsky, and his son Douglas Malinovsky.

The family would like to thank the many caregivers from Vassar Brothers Medical Center, St. Francis Home Health Care, and Hudson Valley Hospice who helped them in the past few months, especially Dr. Stephen Ritter, Franz Pierre, as well as Jolene, Mary, Peggy, and Jennifer. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests you consider a donation in Bob's memory to Hudson Valley Hospice so other families will have the benefit of their services when needed (hvhospice.org or 374 Violet Avenue, Poughkeepsie, NY 12601).

Per Bob's wishes, a celebration of his life will occur at a later date to be determined by the family.

Arrangements are under the direction of Wm. G. Miller & Son F.H., Inc., 371 Hooker Avenue, Poughkeepsie, NY 12603. If you wish to send an online condolence please visit our website at
