Wappingers Falls - George J. Moriaz, a 25-year resident of Wappingers Falls, formerly of Margaretville and Cold Spring, died peacefully at his son's home in Brewster on Sunday, March 2, 2014 at 92.
Son of the late Marcel and Alice (Guex) Moriaz, he was born in Nice, France on March 22, 1921. In 1942, he married Lucienne Baume. Together in 1949, they immigrated to the United States, settling in North White Plains. He first worked at La Cremaillere in Bedford, later in 1963 they opened La Ruche Restaurant in Cold Spring, which they continued to operate until retiring in 1974.
George attended the Wappingers Falls congregation of Jehovah's Witnesses. He had many hobbies and talents besides cooking including gardening, hiking, preaching and he loved the outdoors.
He is survived by his wife, Lucienne Moriaz, at home; his son, Bernard Moriaz (Tina) of Hawaii; his daughter, Danielle Valentine (Raymond) of Wappingers Falls; his son, Alain Moriaz (Gail) of Brewster; his daughter, Sylvianne Haig (Jeff) of Corning; his son-in-law, Edward Gezirjian of Patterson; his grandchildren, Thorin, Yolanda, Jasmine, Jeremy, Jillian, Talia, Trisha, and Michele; and his great-grandchildren, Maika, Emily, Sophie, Maile, Caleb, Noah, Alex, Tristan, George, Claire, Lincoln, Westley, Logan, and Kenton. He is also survived by a host of nieces, nephews, and many other loving relatives & friends.
George was predeceased by his daughter, Christiane Gezirjian in 2003; an infant son, Daniel during World War II; and four brothers, Jeaneaux, Robert, Didi, and Sylvan.
A Memorial Service will be held at 4:30 p.m. on Sunday, March 9, 2014 at Kingdom Hall of Jehovah's Witnesses, 383 All Angels Hill Road, Wappingers Falls.
