Angelina Conti

Carmel - Angelina Conti, age ninety-six, passed away peacefully on Thursday March 27th surrounded by her loving children. Angelina was born at home by a mid-wife on June 10th, 1917 to Antonio and Matilda Rossi who resided in Manhattan. She met her beloved husband Ettore (since deceased) as a young girl of sixteen. They were married at Holy Family Church in Manhattan at the age of twenty-one and were happily married until her husband passed away at the age of fifty-five.

Angelina was a gifted seamstress who worked for a time in lingerie and dressmaking. Throughout her adult life, she generously shared her skills by designing, creating, and altering garments, as well as numerous other items, for family and friends. She also expressed her love through her cooking, and her spinach torta and anulin were but two of her favored dishes. Some may remember the lovely harmonies she sung in earlier days with her sisters Florence, Dominica and Claire, and singing and music remained a source of joy for her. She took pleasure in gardening and for her entire life displayed an interest in, and a love of animals. Among the many animals she cared for, Poco, an adopted dog was for many years later in life, a faithful companion and a favorite.

Angelina loved nature, and she thoroughly enjoyed spending summers and weekends at her cottage in Dutchess County. Having lived ninety years in New York City, she was also a seasoned New Yorker who appreciated all the City had to offer, and was a devoted Yankee fan. She was an active participant at the Lenox Hill Senior Citizens Association where she was a longstanding member of the choral society and drama club.

Angelina shared all that she was and had, with her family, friends, and organizations whose missions touched her. Her generous nature, beautiful smile and the sound of her easy laughter will remain always in our hearts.

She is survived by her three children; Joan Tompkins and her husband Robert, of Salt Point; Jean Conti and husband Kris Jerpe, of New Jersey; and John Conti and wife Ann, of Pawling, New York; five grandchildren and three great grandchildren. Her beloved sister, Florence Grosso, and brother Serio Rossi predeceased her but she is survived by her loving sisters Dominica Moruzzi and Claire DeGillio.
