Hyde Park - Thomas L. Hawkes, 61, of Hyde Park, died Friday, March 28, 2014, at St. Francis Hospital in Poughkeepsie.
Born March 8, 1953 in Poughkeepsie, he was the son of the late Herbert M. and Dorothy Lapan Hawkes.
Tom loved his Irish heritage, embracing its Catholic faith, traditions, and music, and cherished stories of his ancestors. He enjoyed the beauty and wonder of all that nature offered. Other than St. Patrick's Day, the biggest celebration was his annual pig roast which brought countless family and friends to his home.
He was an avid sports enthusiast, and participated in numerous sports activities. He loved the NY Yankees, NY Giants, NY Rangers, and golf. Tom was a former member of the Regina Coeli Men's Golf League and the Red Hook Golf Club.
He worked for Dutchess Beer Distributer for many years and most recently was employed at St. Francis Hospital as head of the receiving department.
Survivors include his sons, Dillon Hawkes of Highland and Jesse Hawkes of Highland, his sister and twin, Kathleen Nichol of Hyde Park, sister Gail Bernhard of Hyde Park, brother-in-law Ted Bernhard, former wife, Lisa Brenner, nieces Bridget Romani, Erin Kozakiewicz, Amy Estrada, and nephew Scott Bernhard. He is also survived by many great nieces and nephews, his aunt Gina Lapan, and cousins. He leaves behind many loyal and devoted friends.
Calling hours will be 5:00 to 8:00 pm on Monday, March 31st at Sweet's Funeral Home, Rte. 9, Hyde Park.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated by Father Zeverin Emagalit, Tuesday, April 1st 10:30 at Our Lady of the Rosary Chapel of St. Peter's Parish, 99 Inwood Ave., Poughkeepsie.
Burial will follow at St. Peter's Cemetery, Poughkeepsie, in the family plot.
