Hyde Park - Carolyn T. Grey, affectionately known as "The Nature Lady", 74, a longtime resident of Hyde Park, died on Sunday, May 4, 2014, at St. Francis Hospital, Poughkeepsie.
Born May 11, 1939 in Scituate, MA, Carrie was the daughter of the late Samuel and Virginia Poland Tilden.
Mrs. Grey received her Bachelor's Degree from the University of Pennsylvania and Master's Degree in Education from the State University of NY at New Paltz.
Carrie began her career as a third grade elementary school teacher in Clementon, NJ, while her husband attended dental school. She and her husband eventually made their way up the Hudson Valley to Hyde Park as Dr. Grey began his dental practice. Along with raising a family, Mrs. Grey was also a substitute teacher for the Hyde Park Central School District. Most recently, she was the director of the nature program for the Town of Hyde Park Summer Camp at Hackett Hill. Her hobbies included hiking, and bird watching.
On August 26, 1961 in Scituate, MA, she married Charles J. Grey. Dr. Grey survives at home.
In addition to her husband, Carrie is survived by two daughters, Jennifer Grey of Saratoga Springs, NY, and Karen Ritchie and husband, James, of Manahawkin, NJ; son, Michael Grey and wife, Shannon, of Princeton, NJ; six grandchildren; brother, David Tilden and wife, Julie, of Pike, NH; and several nieces and nephews.
There are no calling hours. Funeral services will be private and at the convenience of the family.
