POUGHKEEPSIE - Robert T. Mensler, 88, lifelong resident of Poughkeepsie, NY, entered into eternal rest on May 24, 2014.

Born on October 15, 1925 at St. Francis Hospital to the late Michael J. Mensler & Anna E. (Seaman) Mensler, Bob attended grade school at Nativity School and graduated from Poughkeepsie High School. For 52 years he was a faithful parishioner of Holy Trinity Church in Poughkeepsie.

He served as a Corporal in WWII in the 658th Field Artillery Battalion specializing in communications.

He traveled though France, Belgium and Germany with his division until after the war. He was a member of the American Legion Post #37 for 63 years.

On April 13, 1952 Bob married his soul mate Louise E Armstrong. They were blessed with 11 children, 7 girls and 4 boys. He was extremely proud of their varied achievements in life. His greatest enjoyment was taking his children on many excursions that included picnics at Rudd Pond, fishing, hiking and trips to the Bronx Zoo. His spontaneity and zest for life will continue to be an inspiration for all of his children.

Employed as a service technician for 43 years with the National Cash Register Company, he retired in 1990. During his retirement he enjoyed golf, bowling, traveling and spending time with his grandchildren.

Bob is survived by his loving and devoted wife of 62 years, his 11 children: Susan Doyle (Robert), Marilyn Kosloski (Joseph), Kathleen Mensler (John Cavalowsky), Patricia Mensler (William Fluck), Barbara Shortt (John), Michael Mensler (Claire), Robert Mensler (Lauren), Mark Mensler, Julia Mensler (Francis Obeirn), Jeffrey Mensler (Maritza) and Diane Mensler, 18 grandchildren, 7 great-grandchildren, his sister Cecilia Mensler, his sister-in-law Genevieve Mensler and several nieces.

Bob was predeceased by 4 brothers: George, Michael, Edward and Joseph Mensler and 1 sister: Mary Mensler.
