Jean K. Bernard Obituary
Jean K. Bernard

POUGHKEEPSIE - Jean K. Bernard - 88, of Pleasant Valley, a loving mother, grandmother, great-grandmother and

long time nursery school teacher, died on Saturday, June 28, at Lutheran Care Center at Concord Village surrounded by her loving family. Born in Huntington, Long Island, N.Y, Jean graduated from Huntington High School and worked for the federal government during WW II. After having her family, she began her career of teaching nursery school - a career in which she was engaged for more than 40 years. She also volunteered at St Francis Hospital for many years. She had a strength and determination that carried her and her family through some difficult times. With her many self-taught avocations -- gardening, crafts, knitting, sewing, cake making and decoration and ceramics to name a few, she was always busy. With her smiling face, she was more than willing to teach her proficiencies to anyone - young and old. Her favorite times were with family - at ordinary dinners, parties - where we enjoyed her delicious cakes or our beach vacations. She made the holidays special! She is survived by her children - Linda Short (Austin) of Ocean City, NJ, Carol Holliday (David) of Jasper, GA, Nancy Miller of Poughkeepsie, NY, Susan DeMichiel (Michael) of Pleasant Valley, NY, Patricia Cook (Kenneth) of Napanoch, NY, Richard Miller (Donna) of Pleasant Valley, NY. Her grandchildren - John Panessa of Pleasant Valley, NY, Joshua ONeill (Nicki) of Manchester, CT, Lynden Cook (Eric Wood) of Kerhonkson, NY, Jason DeMichiel of Pleasant Valley, NY. Matthew Cook of Napanoch, NY., Krista Miller of Pleasant Valley, NY. Her great-grand children -Dylan Panessa and Emma ONeill and a sister - Joyce Holm of Spring Hill, FLA. The burial will be held at the families' discretion and a memorial service will be held at the Freedom Plains United Presbyterian Church on September 13, 2014, at 1:00 PM. Memorial donations in her name may be given to either Freedom Plains United Presbyterian Church, PO Box 400, LaGrangeville, NY 12540 or to the ASPCA of your choice.
