William T. Streck

POUGHKEEPSIE - William Streck passed away at his home on Sunday, July 6, 2014, at the age of 91 after a long illness. William was born January 29, 1923 in Poughkeepsie, the fourth of six children. Willie was drafted into the Army for 2 years and served in Hawaii, Guam, and the Philippines. Upon returning in 1945 he acquired the "3 big things" in his life...his job at IBM, his first car, and his "girl", Catherine Collins, whom he would marry in 1949. Together 65 years, they raised four children. Willie worked for IBM for 38 years, retiring in 1985. Willie was a devoted husband and father with a great love of baseball, softball, and bowling. Willie also served as a lifetime member of the Polish Club and coordinated many events at the Hibernia Road grounds. After his retirement in 1985, Willie could be found bowling, playing ball, or wandering around the grocery and dollar stores with his now famous "red hat & feathers". A self taught gardener, he shared many tomatoes with family and friends. He is survived by his devoted wife of 65 years, Catherine Streck, eldest son Terrence and wife Jannette, sons Robert and Thomas, and daughter Catherine and husband Hugh Norton. Also surviving are six grandchildren and three great grandchildren. Willie is predeceased by five siblings. Calling hours will be on Friday, July 11, 2014, from 3:00 - 6:00PM at the William G. Miller & Son Funeral Home, Inc., 371 Hooker Avenue, Poughkeepsie, NY 12603. A Mass of Christian Burial will take place at St. Stanislaus Church, Rte. 44, Pleasant Valley, NY on Saturday, July 12, 2014 at 9 AM.
