Poughkeepsie - Betty Fitzpatrick, 85, a lifelong area resident, died on Thursday, July 10, 2014, at her home in Poughkeepsie, with her loving family by her side.
Born October 28, 1928 in Staatsburg, she was the daughter of the late Lewis and Myrtle Ackert Griffen.
On May 25, 1947 in Poughkeepsie, she married James Fitzpatrick. Mr. Fitzpatrick predeceased her in 1986.
Betty was a Forelady for the Smith Brother's Cough Drop Company in Poughkeepsie for a number of years. She was also employed at IBM and Western Printing, and was most recently a bus monitor for First Student.
Betty was an avid bowler, and was a member of many local leagues at the Mardi-Bob Lanes, in Poughkeepsie. She was also a former volunteer for the Hyde Park Food Pantry at St. James' Episcopal Church in Hyde Park.
Survivors include her son, Dennis Fitzpatrick and wife, Sandra, of Hyde Park; three daughters, Susan Grega of Kingston, Karen Doughty and husband, Dwayne, of Hopewell Junction, and Laura Powell and companion, Charles Giuriceo, of Poughkeepsie; son - in - law, Douglas Powell of Poughkeepsie; and two sisters, Joan Bonesteel of Mt. Marion, NY, and Janet Minkler of Germantown. Betty is also survived by twelve grandchildren, six great grandchildren, and many nieces and nephews.
In addition to her parents, Betty was predeceased by her brothers, Harold, Jack, and William Griffen; sister, Madeline Wardell; and her great-granddaughter, Shaelynn Fleissner.
For the last five years, Betty's granddaughter, Amber Powell, was her dedicated and loving caretaker.
Calling hours will be 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 pm, Monday, July 14th at Sweet's Funeral Home, Inc., Rte. 9, Hyde Park.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10 am Tuesday, July 15th, at Our Lady of the Rosary Chapel of St. Peter's Parish, 185 Hudson View Dr., Poughkeepsie.
Burial will follow in the family plot at St. Peter's Cemetery, Poughkeepsie.
