WAPPINGER - Kenneth M. Hilmar, 89, a lifelong resident of Wappingers Falls, died peacefully on Thursday, August 7, 2014 at the NYS Veterans Home at Montrose.
Born in Staten Island on April 3, 1925, he was the son of the late Martin Julius and Ella Kjargaard Hilmar. He proudly served our country in the US Navy during World War II and was employed as an electrical engineer for IBM, East Fishkill for 45 years until his retirement in 1987. Ken was a member of the IBM Quarter Century Club and Wappingers Lodge #671, Free and Accepted Masons. He was also a member of the original Sloper Willen Community Ambulance.
On June 2, 1950 at the Baptist Parsonage in Pawling, Ken married Sally Worden who predeceased him on November 28, 1995. He is survived by his children and their spouses, Nancy and Kevin Geysen of East Fishkill, Martin and Shari Hilmar of Wappingers Falls; his brother, Hank Hilmar of Highland; and his grandchildren, Rebecca Donofrio, Jared Mahnic, Katlin Geysen and Kyle Geysen; and many nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by his children, Marcie Mahnic and Andria Humeston; his grandson, Justin Mahnic; and his brothers, Carl and Bill Hilmar.
Calling hours will be held on Thursday from 7-8pm at the McHoul Funeral Home, Inc., 895 Route 82, Hopewell Junction followed by the funeral service at 8pm with military honors. Interment will be in Gerald B.H. Solomon Saratoga National Cemetery at the convenience of the family.
