Hopewell Junction - Catherine Mary Raum, lovingly known as Kay or Nanny, 83, passed away Saturday, August 16, 2014 at Vassar Brothers Medical Center in Poughkeepsie.

Kay was born on January 30, 1931 in New York City and grew up in Washington Heights. She graduated from Cathedral High School in 1949 and began working as a head bank teller at Manufacturers Trust in New York City. On February 6, 1951, she married the love of her life, Henry George Raum. They lived in New York City and Levittown before moving to Valhalla, where they lived for 40 years.

Kay is survived by her 7 children, Catherine (Dennis) Nittoli of Cortlandt Manor, Michael (Barbara) Raum of Valhalla, Marguerite (Richard) Carroll of Fishkill, Christopher (Joyce) Raum of Mohegan Lake, Henry Raum of Dumfries, VA, William (Patricia) Raum of Croton-on-Hudson, and Mary (Christopher) Moran of Hopewell Junction; her 19 grandchildren, Nicole (Arthur) Andersen of Wallkill, Michael Carroll of Hopewell Junction, Matthew Carroll of Fishkill, Vanessa (Kevin) Leahey of South Salem, John Raum of North White Plains, William Raum of Dumfries, VA, Rebecca Carroll of Hopewell Junction, Dennis (Lauren) Nittoli of Hopewell Junction, Amber (Richard) Pennock of Austin, TX, Corinne (Drew) Safarowic of Mahopac, Kevin Raum of Tuckahoe, Ashley Raum of Santa Barbara, CA, Courtney Raum of White Plains, Brian Raum of Dumfries, VA, Jessica Raum of Tarrytown, Brandon Raum of Mohegan Lake,

Kyle Raum of Croton-on-Hudson, Kyle Moran of Hopewell Junction, and Meredith Moran of Hopewell Junction, her 9 great-grandchildren, Jackson, Ava, and Kieran Leahey, Nathan, Logan, and Bryce Andersen, Kenley and Sophia Nittoli, and Juliette Pennock; her brother, Charles Doyle of El Paso, TX; and her faithful companion, Benji. She is predeceased by her husband, Henry George Raum; her parents, Mary and Charles McLaughlin; her brothers, Jack Doyle and James "Buddy" Doyle; and daughter-in-law, Sharon Raum.

Kay loved to garden, travel, sew, crochet, and volunteer for Holy Name of Jesus Church and the Valhalla Fire Department Ladies Auxiliary. After raising her seven children, Kay received an Associate's Degree from Westchester Community College and was a bookkeeper at Lieberman Suburban Research in North White Plains. When Henry passed away in 2004, she moved to Hopewell Junction to be closer to her family. Kay's passion was spending time with her family and nothing was more important to Kay than her children, their spouses, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Eager to show her support for them, she attended many of their events and activities and was always so happy to visit with or talk to them. With a smile on her face she would greet everyone with "Hello, Love, and how are you, dear?" Setting a wonderful example for her family, Kay was always positive, accepting, understanding, and encouraging.

Calling hours will be held from 5 - 8pm on Tuesday, August 19 at the McHoul Funeral Home, Inc. 895 Route 82, Hopewell Junction, NY. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11am on Wednesday, August 20 at Holy Name of Jesus Church, 2 Broadway, Valhalla followed by burial at Gate of Heaven Cemetery in Hawthorne.
