Hyde Park - Christine Ann (Rock) Ault, 31, a lifelong resident of Hyde Park, passed away on Saturday, August 16, 2014, at the Kaplan Family Hospice Residence in Newburgh, with her family at her side.
Born November 4, 1982 in Poughkeepsie, she was the daughter of Michael R. and Jean D. Sullivan Rock. Her father survives in Hyde Park and her mother predeceased her on June 12, 2008.
She was a 2001 graduate of F.D. Roosevelt High School, Hyde Park. She graduated Summa Cum Laude in 2004 with her Bachelor of Arts Degree in Public Relations from Quinnipiac University in Conn., and her Masters in E-Media from Quinnipiac in 2005.
Most recently, she worked for Merriweather's in Rhinebeck, and formerly worked in the gift shop at Mills Mansion in Staatsburg.
She attended St. Peter's Church in Hyde Park.
Christine loved movies and was known for her annual Oscar party.
An avid softball player, she played in high school on the Roosevelt Softball team and with the Dutchess Debs Summer Softball program. The Roosevelt Softball Team dedicated their 2014 season to Rocky.
She was an active fundraiser for the American Cancer Society Relay for Life, and in recognition of her own battle with cancer, she was given the honor of cutting the ribbon to launch the Relay for Life in Rhinebeck in 2011.
After her diagnosis, her family began the annual Cousins Raising Awareness Picnic to help raise money for local charities. Recently, her friends created a Not for Profit organization in her honor called "Rocky Strong".
She loved decorating, listening to music, and spending time with her dogs, Miri and Arya, and cats, Tweak and Butters.
Christine's family and friends meant the world to her. Her friends, who affectionately called her "Rocky" were a very important part of her life and a huge source of support during her illness.
On November 7, 2007 in Hyde Park, she married James J. Ault. Mr. Ault survives at home.
In addition to her husband and father, she is survived by three sisters, Patricia Rock of Poughkeepsie, Jean Wheeler and husband, John, of Hyde Park, and Jennifer Rock and husband, Ian Smith, of Hyde Park; mother and father-in-law, Pat and Don Ault of Hyde Park; sister and brother-in-law, Mary and Mike Hartstein of Rochester; three nieces, Lauren Rock, Teresa Wheeler, and Fiora Hartstein; one Nephew, Michael Wheeler; and many aunts, uncles, and cousins.
She is also survived by too many friends to list.
Christine was predeceased by her infant brother, Michael Joseph Rock in 1967.
Christine's family would like to thank the staff at Vassar Bros. Medical Center, Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center, Hudson Valley Hematology Oncology, and the Kaplan House for their compassionate care.
Calling hours will be from 2 to 7 PM, Wednesday, August 20th at Sweet's Funeral Home, Rte. 9, Hyde Park.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10 AM, Thursday, August 21st at Our Lady of the Rosary Chapel of St. Peter's Parish, 185 Hudson View Dr., Poughkeepsie.
Burial will follow in St. Peter's Cemetery, Poughkeepsie.
In lieu of flowers, Christine's family respectfully requests memorial donations be made to "Rocky Strong", c/o Samara Kelly, 6 Beas Lane, Hyde Park, NY 12538.
Arrangements are under the direction of Sweet's Funeral Home, Inc., Rte. 9, Hyde Park.
