EAST FISHKILL - Kathleen M. Schiaffino, 69, a resident of Hopewell Junction, NY since 1996 and formerly of New Rochelle, NY died on May 14, 2017 at her home following a long illness. Everyone who knew Kathy knew her to be an intelligent, kind, strong, independent, and fiercely loyal person who was devoted to her husband and family.
Born in Hicksville, NY on June 6, 1947, she was the daughter of William McAleer and Anne (O'Connor) McAleer. Kathy received her bachelor's degree from Mount St. Vincent College, her Masters in Counseling from Indiana University, her Masters in Social Work from Columbia University, and her PhD in Psychology from CUNY Graduate Center. She was an Associate Professor of Psychology and department chair at Fordham University in the Bronx for many years.
On May 2, 1970 in Hicksville, Kathy married Robert J. Schiaffino who survives her. She is also survived by her daughter, Andrea Payne and her husband Mark Payne of Hopewell Junction; her son, Brian Schiaffino of Poughkeepsie; her grandchildren, Massimo, Stella, and Briasia; and her sister, Terry McManus of Franklin, Tennessee.
Calling hours will be held on Friday, May 19th from 3 to 7pm at the McHoul Funeral Home of Fishkill, Inc., 1089 Main Street, Fishkill, NY.

I just found out about Kathy's passing, and want to send my sympathies to her family. She was my mentor when I studied at Fordham, and I will always appreciate her support, caring, and friendship. Her guiding hand really helped me get through the program. Lori Crispi
