James W. Recchia

RHINEBECK - James W. Recchia, 96, of Rhinebeck, NY, passed away peacefully on Thursday, April 7, 2011 at the Thompson House in Rhinebeck, NY.

For many years, Mr. Recchia was a salesman for Parkers Western Wear in Reno, NV where he lived from 1986-2002. Previously he worked at the Lucky Platt Company in Poughkeepsie and was a riding master at the Mohonk Mountain House in the 1950's.

He broke and trained horses for ranches all across the country and was a member of the Pinto Horses Association and was a professional rodeo judge.

Mr. Recchia served in the United States Army as Staff Sergeant in 44th Infantry Division. He served in the European Theatre and was involved in the invasion of France.

Born on September 9, 1914, in Hopewell Junction, NY, he was the son of the late Vincenzo and Elvira (Caraguzzi) Recchia. He attended the Poughkeepsie Schools.

James married Mary Caputo on Nov. 24, 1946 in Mt. Carmel Church, Poughkeepsie, and Mary predeceased him on November 1, 2002.

He is survived by a loving daughter and son in law; Linda and Guy Milroy of Poughkeepsie, a brother and sister in law; Ricardo and Rebecca Recchia of Rhinebeck, a grandson; Guy R. Milroy, III of San Antonio, TX, two granddaughters; Jeneen Odendahl of Kingston, NY, and Leigh Ann Lusito of Hyde Park, NY, seven great grandchildren; Faith Milroy, Isaiah & his wife Delicia Milroy, Josiah Milroy, Daniel Odendahl, Rebecca Odendahl, Michael Odendahl, and Sarah Odendahl, one great great grandchild; Isabelle Milroy, along with several nieces, nephews and cousins.

In addition to his wife, he is predeceased by six brothers; William, Louis, John, Quito, Rocco, and Gilbert Recchia, and two sisters; Edith Lane and Mary Vleming.

Funeral services will be held at 11:00 AM on Tuesday, April 12, 2011 at Burnett & White Funeral Homes, Rhinebeck, NY. Burial will be at Rhinebeck Cemetery, Rhinebeck. Friends may call at the Burnett & White Funeral Homes on Monday, April 11, 2011 from 4 – 7pm.
