Emely was born in Watervliet, New York on March 28, 1919. She was the second of three children born to Ernest William and Mathilda Sophia (Barsness) Anderson. In 1922, the family moved from Troy, NY to the family farm in North Greenbush where she grew up. She graduated from the one room school house, Bell Top School in June of 1931 as Valedictorian of her class and graduated from Troy High School in 1935. Emely continued her education at the State Normal School of New Paltz and graduated with a Teacher's Certificate from the Department of Education of the University of the State of New York. In 1938, during orientation in the town of Millbrook, NY, where she was to begin her first teaching job, Emely met her future husband, William Joseph (Benedetto) Sepe. A new job with the NY Central Railroad in 1941 enabled Emely to travel home to the "the Farm" on weekends while William was serving his country in the Marine Corps. During her time with the railroad, she taught managers how to use the telephone properly in their work. They were married August 22, 1947.

But her passion was teaching children, and she continued course work at Columbia Teachers' College, New York City, Albany State Teacher's College, Albany, NY and SUNY New Paltz, NY. She received her Bachelor of Science degree in 1966 and her Master of Science in Education in 1979. Both degrees were from SUNY New Paltz.

Emely retired in 1986 after 38 years of teaching kindergarten and first grade mostly at the Traver Road School (Pleasant Valley, NY) of the Arlington School District.

She is predeceased by her husband of 43 years April 9, 1990 and sister, Ruth Carolyn (late Elmore) Whitegiver. Survivors include her brother Theodore (Wanda) Anderson: her children William Anderson Sepe of Poughkeepsie, NY, Peter (Carol) Sepe of Sandy Hook, CT, and Paul (Annette) Sepe of Hot Springs, AR: her grandchildren Meryl Jeannine (Monte Victor Law) of Golden Valley, AZ, Erin Sepe (Jonathan) Pirro of Granby, CT, Hilary Anne Sepe of Twin Lake, MI, Suzanne (Brian) Brown of New Port Richey, FL, Sarah (Carlos) Rivera of Merrillville, IN and David (Libby) Sepe of Hot Springs, AR: several great grandchildren, nieces and nephews.
