In 1922, the family moved from Troy, NY to the family farm in North Greenbush where she grew up. She graduated from the one room school house, Bell Top School in June of 1931 as Valedictorian of her class and graduated from Troy High School in 1935. During her time with the railroad, she taught managers how to use the telephone properly in their work. They were married August 22, 1947.
But her passion was teaching children, and she continued course work at Columbia Teachers' College, New York City, Albany State Teacher's College, Albany, NY and SUNY New Paltz, NY. She received her Bachelor of Science degree in 1966 and her Master of Science in Education in 1979. Both degrees were from SUNY New Paltz.
Emely retired in 1986 after 38 years of teaching kindergarten and first grade mostly at the Traver Road School (Pleasant Valley, NY) of the Arlington School District.
