Highland, NY - MARY Ann (Shandrowsky) Bratony
Mary A. Bratony, resident of Highland, NY over 60 years passed away April 9, 2012 at St. Francis Hospital in Poughkeepsie, NY with her loving daughter Deborah by her side. Born on March 6, 1923 in East Conemaugh, Pennslyvania, the daughter of Mr & Mrs Peter (Anna Hranycznyj) Shandrowsky.Upon graduation from high school, Mary took the train to New York City. She lived with her oldest married sister Pearl & family in Brooklyn, NY. She got a job in Bickfords Restaurants while attending Dietetics School. At eighteen she was training waitresses and eventually became a manager. It was while working in Manhattan that she met the love of her life Joseph J. Bratony, and the rest is history! Together with her husband Joe, and Joe Walsh they opened the Pastime Luncheonette. It was located at the Bridge Circle Plaza in Highland over 50 years, and their son, Joseph joined them in later years. In Mary's early years, when she was not working she was a meticulous dresser-----always in style with the fashions of the day. In fact, her baby sister Anna back home always called her a "Movie Star"!
Mary Ann is survived by her precious daughter Debbie Bratony and her beloved cat "Kitty" in Highland. She is also survived by 2 sisters: Kay Yesinosky & Martha Partsch both of Pennslyvania. She is also survived by many nieces & nephews. Mary, as she was known by many people was a compassionate, kind-hearted & generous lady. Everyone loved her, she was truly a beautiful person inside and out. She brought joy & comfort to all who knew her & will be missed by the many lives she touched. MaryAnn was predeceased by her husband Joe(2011), her son Joseph(2007) & many sisters & brothers, & her parents.
Her daughter wishes to acknowledge the following: HUDSON VALLEY REHAB & EXT ENDED CARE--Thank You for the excellent care Mommy received over the last 3 years on 3 East from those special people and"Maria".

To St. Francis Hospital ER team that took care that day, and 6th floor Cooke staff-all the RNs--especially Colette, Ali, Tracy, Chris, and Dr Wang, the Pallative Care doctors, PCTs & every one else-Chaplain & Nuns--A big Thank you from the bottom of my heart in giving the upmost care to my Mom. Thank You to the Franciscan Friars at Mt. Alvernia for the beautiful shaw.
Calling hours will take place on Friday, April 13th 3-7 PM at the Michael Torsone Memorial Funeral Home, Inc., 38 Main Street, Highland, NY 12528. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held 11:00 am Saturday, April 14th at St. Augustine's Roman Catholic Church, Highland, NY with burial to follow in Highland Cemetery.
