NEW BRUNSWICK, NJ - Oscar William Patrick Haas, 58, of Metuchen, NJ died suddenly, Monday, September 17, 2012 at the Robert Wood Johnson University Hospital, New Brunswick, NJ. He was born and raised in Hyde Park, NY, was formerly of Tonawanda and Buffalo, NY before moving to New Jersey in 1991.

He was predeceased by his parents, Oscar and Irene (McGinnis) Haas, and his wife Lynn Ann (Strodel) who died in 1999. Oscar was a Bachelor of Science graduate in Chemical Engineering from SUNY at Buffalo, obtaining his Masters there in 1988. He had been employed as an environmental systems chemical engineer with Union Carbide Linde Division, Inc. Tonawanda, NY beginning in 1976 and moved into Research & Development there in 1982. He then joined Bristol Meyers Squibb, New Brunswick, NJ in 1991 as Principle Scientist, Process Research & Development before becoming Associate Director, Manufacturing Technology-API from 2005 to 2009 during which time he traveled widely to supervise plant start-ups around the world. He was currently with the US Environmental Protection Agency in Metuchen, NJ. During his career he was the co-author of a number of scholarly publications and a co-inventor holding five patents. Oscar enjoyed entertaining children and the young at heart by portraying Santa Claus for numerous charitable organizations and at fund raisers in the area at the holidays each year. He was famous as well for his love of felines.

He leaves behind his sister, Elizabeth-Jane Keller and her husband, Frederick K. Keller of Beverly Hills, CA. as well as his in-laws George M. and Virginia A. Strodel of Kenmore, NY. He was loved and will be greatly missed by his family, numerous friends and co-workers.

Visiting hours will be on Monday, October 15, 2012 from 7:00 P.M. to 9:00 P.M. at the Lester H. Wedekindt Funeral Home, 3290 Delaware Ave., Buffalo, NY. Funeral Services will be held on Tuesday, October 16, 2012 at 11:00 A.M.at the Little Chapel of the Elms, Elmlawn Cemetery, Kenmore, NY, with internment immediately following.
