POUGHKEEPSIE - Helen L. Schiavone, 87, of the Town of Poughkeepsie, passed away October 24, 2012 at home surrounded by her loving family. She was born in Pittsfield, Massachusetts on July 3, 1925 the daughter of Alexander & Teofila Stachelek Mlynarczyk. Helen graduated from Pittsfield High School in 1944 and went to work as Secretary and Payroll Clerk for Elmvale Worsted Co. of Pittsfield, MA. She married her husband Ralph N. Schiavone in Holy Family Church in Pittsfield, MA. on August 27, 1949. They were married for 63 years. He survives at home. Helen worked and lived in Indiana while her husband attended Purdue University and later accompanied him on a special work assignment in Japan in 1980. Helen was a loving wife, mother and grandmother and the "guiding star" for the family providing all that a loving mother could do. Family was very important to her. She enjoyed taking her children to the IBM Country Club for its activities. Helen enjoyed following politics, reading newspapers and magazines and listening to Polish music. Swimming, picnicking, sewing and cooking were other hobbies she enjoyed, especially trying new recipes for her family. She is survived by her son and daughter-in-law: Ralph L. & Janet Schiavone of Yorktown Heights, NY; her daughters and sons-in-laws: Marcia & Jack McCarthy of Chester, NJ and Debra & Robert Lawless of Saugerties, NY. Her sisters include: Carrie Dymek of Pittsfield, MA and Phyllis Hoxie of Dalton, MA. Grandchildren surviving are: Lizanne, Eric and his wife Dana, Kelly, Katie and Renee. There are several nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by brothers: Francis & Edward and sisters: Agnes Blumendale and Sophie Fillion. Visitation will be Friday, October 26, 2012, 2-4 & 7-9 PM at the Wm. G. Miller Funeral Home, Inc., 371 Hooker Ave., Poughkeepsie, NY 12603. A Mass of Christian Burial will be Saturday 10:15 AM at St. Martin de Porres Church, 118 Cedar Valley Road, Poughkeepsie, NY 12603. Entombment will follow in Poughkeepsie Rural Cemetery.
