Ruth Emma Draiss Orr
The Guest Book is expired.
Poughkeepsie - Ruth Emma Draiss Orr, 81, died peacefully in her sleep at her home. Ruth is survived by her devoted husband of 59 years, Robert. Together they raised two children: Joel, who pre-deceased Ruth, and Cynthia, married to Joseph Daubman. Anyone who ever talked with Ruth heard of her four grandchildren, of whom she was very proud: Andreya, Aaron and wife Katie, Bethany-Rose and Vanessa-Faith Daubman, as well as her great-grandchildren, Eliyas and Aberash.
Ruth was one of fourteen children of Helen Viola Kennedy Draiss and Frances Edward Draiss, of whom only three survive: Kenneth Draiss, Mary Doreo, and Paul Draiss.
Ruth was a beautiful, vivacious woman, a talented artist, and was renowned for her green thumb. But God's greatest gift to her was the gift of song. An accomplished organist and pianist, she often accompanied herself to entertain others, to sing in church, or to lead the musical portions of Grange meetings. Even at the age of eighty, her sweet voice could bring tears to the eyes of those she serenaded.
There are certain people whose presence in our lives add so very much. Tim and Judy Middlebrook, Suzanne Lent , and nieces Carol, Theresa and Barbara were bright lights in Ruth's life. If you are one who chatted with Ruth on the phone or sent her cards, please know that she treasured you.
Ruth's family wants to thank the wonderful staff and residents of The Manor at Woodside, who have truly been a second family to her and Robert for the last six years, and especially Rosa, who raises spirits and spreads love wherever she goes. In her last weeks of life, Ruth was faithfully attended by a staff of aides who were ministering angels, led by Eva, who cared for Ruth as she died. Thanks also to the staff of Vassar Hospital, Hospice of Dutchess County, Vassar Wound Care Center, and to Dr. Thomas Robinson and his staff.
Visitation and viewing will be Thursday, Dec. 20, at 9:30 a.m., followed by the funeral at 10 a.m. and internment, all at Trinity United Methodist Church, 6 South Cross Road, LaGrangeville, Reverend Susan Chadwick presiding, Burial to follow in Lagrangeville Cemetery. Funeral Arrangements are under the direction of Robert H. Auchmoody Funeral Home.
