Louis A. Swing

Holmes - Swing, Louis A., age 89, of Holmes, NY, died Wednesday, January 2, 2013 at his home.

Mr. Swing was born August 14, 1923 in Philadelphia, PA to John and Bernadette (Vallee) Swing. He served in the air force during WWII. He was stationed in India and had worked on B-29's. Following the war he served in the Sea Bee's while in the reserves serving in Iceland and Spain.

On June 19, 1948, Louis married Dorothea P. Sprague in Patterson, NY were they made their home until moving to Holmes in 1955. Mrs. Swing died April 1, 2006.

Mr. Swing was a carpenter working for Tymor Farms in LaGrangeville, NY for many years before becoming head of maintenance at the Kent Nursing Home in Ludingtonville, NY for over 20 years. He later was grounds keeper for the Presbyterian Camp in Holmes.

Mr. Swing was a member of the Patterson Grange and the Pawling Fire Department Station #2. He was an avid collector and NASCAR fan and enjoyed fishing and hunting.

Mr. Swing is survived by his three children, Marjorie McGuiness and her husband Joseph of Cornwall-on-Hudson, NY, Paul A Swing and his wife Kathleen of Holmes, NY and Mary-Lynn Pruitt and her husband Ralph of Holmes, NY; two brothers, Bernard Wallen of Wingdale and John Wallen Jr. of Patterson, NY; four grandchildren, Stephen and Christopher McGuiness and Lindsey and Shawn Pruitt. Also six great grandchildren, Kayla, Daniel, Aidan, Gracie, Silas and Eli.

A funeral service will be held on Monday, January 7, 2013 12 noon at Dwyer Funeral Home 23 South Street, Patterson, NY. Interment following at Maple Avenue Cemetery in Patterson, NY. Friends may call at the funeral home on Monday from 10:00AM to 12 noon.
