POUGHKEEPSIE - James R. Claxton, 66, an area resident for 39 years and formerly of Carmel and Yonkers, died on Thursday, January 3, 2013 at the Bayonet Point Medical Center in Hudson, FL.
Born in Yonkers on November 10, 1946, he was the son of the late James Irving and Dorothy Ann Montgomery Claxton. James proudly served our country in the US Army during the Vietnam War. He was employed as a Technician for Tri State Mailing Equipment in Mount Vernon until his retirement.
An avid motorcyclist, he traveled cross country and was a member of the Connecticut River Valley BMW Riders, BMW MOA: Club #164. He was a tinkerer who could fix anything, and loved dogs, boating, and fishing. James was a former member of the Masons.
James is survived by his children, Alison Garnot and her husband Dave of Hopewell Junction and Amy Wikstrom and her husband Rick of Stormville; his grandchildren, Briana, Steven, Matthew, Daniel, and Avery; his former wife, Karen Wasp of Poughquag; and his special friend, Kathy Eberlein.
Calling hours will be held on Monday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 pm at the McHoul Funeral Home, Inc., 895 Route 82, Hopewell Junction. The funeral service will be held on Tuesday at 9 am at the funeral home followed by interment at Mount Hope Cemetery in Hastings-on-Hudson with military honors.
