Brendan Thomas Farley

Hyde Park - Brendan Thomas Farley, 95, died Sunday, January 20, 2013 at Northern Dutchess Hospital in Rhinebeck. A local resident since 2010, he was formerly of Livingston, NY.

Born May 24, 1917 in New York City, he was the son of the late Thomas F. and Julia V. Farley.

He honorably served in the U.S. Army during World War II.

Brendan was a proud alumni of Fordham University and was employed as an accountant for American Can Co. in New York City until his retirement in 1978.

Brendan was predeceased by his first wife, Carolyn Wells in 1981. On April 16, 1983 in Hyde Park, he married Winifred (nee VonGonten) Heidemann. He was devoted to his wife, and Mrs. Farley survives at home.

In addition to his wife, he is survived by his son B. Michael Farley; three step-children: Richard Heidemann, Patti Heidemann, and Carole Williams; seven grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; many nieces and nephews; and his beloved dog "Suki". In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by his daughter, Carol; five siblings, Thomas P., Joseph T., Rosemary, J. Frank, and Charles; and beloved son-in-law, Peter Williams."

Brendan had four passions besides his family: "the 4 Gs"- God, NY Giants, Gardening, and Golf. Brendan had a strong faith in God and taught CCD at St. Christopher's in Red Hook. The outcome of a Giants game set the tone for his week (especially his wife's!). Besides football season, gardening was the highlight of his year. He nurtured his prized dahlias year after year, in addition to many vegetables and flowers. Despite advanced illness, he could be seen this past summer tending to his beautiful garden. Brendan also enjoyed golf, often playing at Dinsmore in Staatsburg, NY.

The family extends their heartfelt thanks to Jen, Paula, Sue, Sylvia, and Brandi from Dutchess County Hospice for all their help and kindness.
