George "Butch" Gaston

Puyallup, WA - George McClure Gaston II, lovingly known by his family as "Butch" crossed over December 18, 2012 iin Pyallup, Washington. He was born in Parkersburg, West Virginia on October 26, 1943. The family moved to Fishkill, NY when he was a young child and he attended Fishkill Schools and Suffield Academy, Suffield, CT. He earned his associate degree from Dutchess Community College and, later in life, attained his bachelor's degree from Regents College.
George enlisted in the U.S. Navy in 1966, and became a Navy Corpsman at the National Naval Medical Center in Bethesda, MD. He served one tour of duty in Vietnam in 1968. Upon discharge from the Navy, he made his home in California. In 1976, he moved to Washington and enlisted in the Washington National Guard Reserves. They sent him to Texas, where he graduated from their Physician Assistant program and earned the rank of Warrant Officer 2. Upon graduation he returned to Washington.
Most of his professional life was spent in the computer and information technology fields. He worked for the State of Washington until 1998. He then spent 2 years as an independent Y2K contractor in both Hawaii and Virginia.
He was active in the Boy Scouts of America, Olympia Troop 48, a past member of the Order of Free and Accepted Masons Harmony Lodge 18, and a member of the Scottish Rite. He was most proud of his membership in the Afifi Shrine, where he was a past president of the Clown Unit, and was known as "Moon". As a military veteran, he was active in the Warriors Circle at the Veterans Center American Lake, and a supporter of the Wounded Warrior Project.
George was married to Nancy Lee Plain, of Poughkeepsie, NY, in 1965. They divorced in 2009. He is survived by his son, Christopher Ryan of Olympia, WA; his granddaughter, Alexandra Jade Holts of Lacey, WA; his brother, Sterling (Christine) of Fishkill, NY; and numerous nieces and nephews.
He was predeceased in death by his father, George McClure Gaston; his mother, Lurline Olsen Gaston; his daughter, Letitia Janeen; and his brother, William.
A graveside service will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Monday, February 4, 2013 at Union Cemetery, Route 9G, Hyde Park, NY.
