POUGHKEEPSIE - Michael Balducci, 86, a resident in the Manor at Woodside, Poughkeepsie, for four years and formerly of Suffern and Brooklyn, NY died on Thursday, February 7, 2013.
Born in Grenoble, France on September 27, 1926, he was the son of Croce and Emanuela Calabrese Balducci. At the age of 13, his family moved to Genova, Italy. He served as a Sherman Tank Radioman in the Italian Army following World War II as allies to the United States. He was employed as a painter with State Painting in New York City, Local DC 9 for 25 years and retired in 1991. Michael was educated in France & Italy and was fluent in three languages - English, Italian & French.
In December 1960, he left Italy and came to the USA to be with the love of his life. On May 21, 1961 in Brooklyn, Michael married Lucy Balducci , who predeceased him on September 15, 2008. He is survived by his children and their spouses, Grace and Jerry Nuzback of Hopewell Junction, Joseph and Danielle Balducci of Tuxedo Park and Thomas and Wendy Balducci of Monroe; his grandsons, Christopher and Michael Nuzback, Joseph Jr., Michael and Luca Balducci; his siblings, Domenico, Grazia, Felice, Pina, Maria, Italia and Fortunato; his brother-in-law Lou Balducci; and many nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his siblings, Camille & Emilo Balducci.
Michael had been a member of Sacred Heart Parish in Suffern. He was also a member of the Sloatsburg and Suffern Senior Citizens Group where he made many friends and enjoyed their social gatherings and bus trips with the group.
Wherever Michael went, he brought a special spark of life with him. At all family gatherings, senior trips and grandson's sport activities, he had a way about him that would bring a smile and laughter to everyone around. He especially enjoyed entertaining his grandsons with his uniquely talented, comedic ways.
Calling hours will be held on Monday from 4 - 7pm at the McHoul Funeral Home, Inc., 895 Route 82, Hopewell Junction. The Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Tuesday at 10am at St. Columba, 835 Route 82, Hopewell Junction followed by entombment in the Community Mausoleum at Poughkeepsie Rural Cemetery.
