Hyde Park - Donald Francis Rielle, 80, of Hyde Park, passed away peacefully at home with his loving family by his side, on Valentine's Day 2013 after a long illness.
Don was born March 30th, 1932, and was the son of the late Grace Artibee Rielle and Dennis Rielle. He was the loving husband, soul mate, of Judith Ann (nee Lacey) for 57 years; devoted father to Christine Ferland (Matt), and Lisa McGann; beloved grandfather of Christopher Anzalone, Lacey McGann, and Brooklyn McGann; dear brother of Russell (Crissy) Rielle, the late Warren Rielle, and the late Sam Rielle; cherished brother-in-law of Geri (Danny) Bryan; dearest uncle to many nieces and nephews; and blessed friend to Sharon Russitano and Laurie Cohn.
Don served with honor in the US Army during the Korean conflict; earned several degrees from Plattsburgh, Ohio University and, proudly, a Doctorate in Education from Ohio State University. Don devoted his entire life to the education of children as a teacher, specializing in science. He became a principal, then a superintendant in several school districts, challenging students to reach their potential. He had an exceptional career as the Superintendant of Dutchess County B.O.C.E.S., where he worked to develop and expand both vocational and academic programs.
Don was a man of deep faith and integrity and witnessed God's unconditional love to all. He volunteered in active ministry for over 40 years in his parish community of St. Peter's, including the parish school of religion and service to the elderly and homebound in the local community. His compassionate heart went beyond family and friends as he reached out to strangers, treating them with kindness and hospitality; practical help given if needed.
Don enjoyed nature and astronomy; pruning trees became an art form. His easy laugh and ready smile will be greatly missed.
