Josephine Gardner

Marlborough - Josephine R. Gardner died at home in Marlborough, New York, on Wednesday, February 13, 2013. Josephine was born on June 20, 1915, in Webster, Pa. She was the daughter of Nicola and Maria Sirianni Russo. She came to Newburgh in 1940 with her husband, Robert Gardner, who predeceased her in 1970. Josephine and Robert raised their family here.

Josephine or as we all knew her as "Jo", retired as an administrative assistant from Teleprompter Cable TV. She was a communicant of St Mary's Church in Newburgh and involved herself in church and community organizations. She was a member of the Oblate Society, St Mary's Rosary Society, the Newburgh Elks' Auxiliary, the Business and Professional Women's Organization, and Tired Mothers. Jo was happiest with family and friends and shared her warmth with all. She especially enjoyed sharing good food, conversation, and laughter.

Josephine is survived by her four children Dolores "Dee" G. Bedell, Charlottesville, Va; Robert T. and Diane Gardner, Walton, NY; Martha and Donald B. Mack, Lead, SD; and RoseMarie Gardner, Marlborough, NY; her four grandchildren: Robert T., Jr. and Elizabeth Gardner, Karen L. Mack, James P. Gardner and Kelly, Suzanne and Robert Barr. Ten great grand children also survive her: James, Alexander, Corinne, Ian, Robbie, Gage, Alexis, Gunnar, Jessica, and Kyra; and two great great grandsons, Rome Stephen and Caysin Thomas who is expected any day. One sister Jennie Vaccaro and her husband Jim of Monongahela, Pa, survive her as well as many nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends. In addition to her husband, Josephine was predeceased by an infant daughter, Linda Jean; great grandson, Joshua; daughter-in-law, Elaine; son-in-law, Wallace; five brothers and four sisters.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to St. Mary's Church, 180 South Street, Newburgh, NY, 12550 or to a for medical research particularly, heart, cancer or the Myasthenia Gravis Foundation of America, Inc; 355 Lexington Ave, 15th Floor, New York, NY 10017.

The family will receive friends from 4 to 7 p.m. on Friday, February 22, 2013, at Brooks Funeral Home, 481 Gidney Avenue, Newburgh, NY. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10 o'clock on Saturday, February 23, St Mary's Church, 180 South Street, Newburgh, NY. Interment will follow at Calvary Cemetery, New Windsor.
