Thoben - Kathleen S. Thoben, beloved wife of Alfred H. Thoben of New Paltz, NY, passed away on February 16, 2013, at Vassar Brothers Medical Center in Poughkeepsie, NY, surrounded by her loving family.

Born on March 7, 1930, in Beacon, NY, Kathleen was the daughter of the late John and Grace (Higgins) Salzig of Poughkeepsie. She attended St. Mary's Elementary School and was a 1948 graduate of Poughkeepsie High School. On October 26, 1957, she married her loving husband Alfred.

After a long career at Central Hudson and at Duchess Bank and Trust of Poughkeepsie, Kathleen retired as "the Secretary" of the bank. She served on the board of Elting Memorial Library and was active in the Roman Catholic Community of St. Joseph Church at New Paltz.

An avid reader, Kathleen's many hobbies included gardening, knitting Icelandic sweaters and quilting. In retirement, Kathleen mastered golf, and was a member of the ladies golf league at Apple Greens Golf Course and Locust Grove Golf Course. A devoted caretaker, Kathleen enjoyed spending time with family and friends, traveling extensively with her husband, and the tranquility of her home.

Kathleen is survived by her husband of 56 years, Alfred, her sister-in-law Dorie, and her many adoring nieces, nephews, great nieces and great nephews. She is predeceased by her parents, her brother John (Jack) Salzig and her sister Grace (Regina) Lasko.

Calling hours will be held from 4:00 pm to 7:00 pm on Wednesday, February 20, 2013 at Copeland Funeral Home, 162 S. Putt Corners Rd., New Paltz, NY 12561. A mass of Christian burial will be offered at St. Joseph Church, 34 S. Chestnut St., New Paltz, NY 12561 on Thursday, February 21, 2013 at 10:00 am. Burial in St. Charles Cemetery, Route 44/55, Gardiner, NY. 12525, will follow the service. Memorial donations can be made to the Gardner Fire Department, Leonard Tantillo, Secretary-Treasurer, 730 Route 208, Gardiner, NY 12525 or the Elting Memorial Library, 93 Main St., New Paltz, NY 12561.

All who knew her will dearly miss Kathleen. She will be remembered for her sparkling eyes, her sable brown hair, and her strong, loving spirit.

Now in God's loving hands, Kathleen will remain forever in our hearts.
