OPPENHEIM - John "Jack" M. Cody, 69, of Oppenheim, NY, formerly of Stormville, NY, passed away on April 2, 2013 at his home, after a long illness.

He was born on January 23, 1944 in Yonkers, NY, a son of the late John and Alice (Duffy) Cody. Jack attended Commerce High School in Yonkers and graduated with the Class of 1962. After his graduation, he enlisted in the United States Navy in June of 1964. He served during the Vietnam War and received the Armed Forces Expeditionary Medal and the National Defense Service Medal. Jack was honorably discharged in June of 1966.

While in the military, Jack was united in marriage to Diane C. Bell in Yonkers, NY. The couple was married for 47 years together.

Jack was formerly employed by Consolidated Edison in New York City as a supervisor. He worked there for 33 years until his retirement in 1999.

He enjoyed his computer, fishing, boating and sports of all kinds. Jack was an avid fan of the New York Jets and New York Mets. He was a member of the Hilltop Volunteer Fire Department. Along with his wife, the most precious time that Jack spent was with those he loved the most, his children and grandchildren. He will truly be missed by his family and friends.

Jack is survived by his wife, Diane C. Cody at home; his children, Patrick Cody and his wife, Lisa of Pawling, NY, Charlene Cody of Poughquag, NY, and John Cody, Jr. and his wife, Laura of Poughkeepsie, NY; his grandchildren, Patrick Cody, Jr. and his fiancée, Nadia, Terrence Pizzuti and his wife, Christina, Brandon Pizzuti, Lindsay Pizzuti, Sienna Cody, John Cody III, and Noah Cody; a sister, Alice Lennox of Hawaii; a brother, James Cody and his wife, Joan of Rhinebeck, NY.

He was predeceased by his beloved grandson, Michael William Cody on August 5, 2008, a brother, Donald Cody and a sister, Maryann Ayres.

Calling hours will be held on Friday, April 5, 2013 from 5-8 p.m. at Miller-Plonka Funeral Home, 30 Wolf Street, Dolgeville, New York 13329. A funeral service will be held on Saturday, April 6, 2013 at 10 a.m. also at the funeral home. Burial will take place in Pawling Cemetery in Pawling, New York at a later time.

The family would like to thank the doctors, nurses and staff at the Albany Stratton Veteran's Affairs Medical Center for their compassion and care for Jack during his illness.
