Deacon Landon Roosevelt Gray

Town of Poughkeepsie - Landon Roosevelt Gray, 49, of Poughkeepsie, New York was called home to be with the Lord on March 30, 2013 at St. Francis Hospital after a short illness.

Born on April 28, 1963 in Poughkeepsie, NY, he was the son of the late Ollie Gray Jr. and Lucy Gray. He resided in Waterbury, Connecticut for several years but spent most of his life in Poughkeepsie.

On April 29, 1989, he married the love of his life, the former Lisa Paquet in Poughkeepsie, NY. He was a faithful and loving husband and the devoted father of seven children, one son Ryan Gray, Poughkeepsie, NY, six daughters, Lavonde and Lashana Johnson, Birmingham, Alabama, Brittany, Shayna, Iman and Zahra Gray of Poughkeepsie, NY. He was a playful and loving "Big Poppa" to seventeen grandchildren.

Landon had a passion for learning and was a 1981 graduate of FDR High School in Hyde Park, NY. In 2002 he received his AAS in Community Mental Health from Dutchess Community College. At the time of his death, he was attending Marist College studing for his B.S.W.

He was employed at several non-profit human services agencies and his current job was with Rockland County Psychiatric Center as a Vocational Peer Specialist with the A.C.T. Team.

He had a great love for children and was the co-founder of "Protect the Dream Youth Program". He was the Head Coach and served on the Board of directors for Pop Warner teams such as the Waterbury Knights and the Hyde Parl Eagles. He also coached football at the High School level for the FDR JV team and the Pine Plains Varsity team.

He accepted Jesus Christ as his Lord and Savior many years ago at Beulah Baptist Church, where he served as a Deacon, Servant Leader of the Media Ministry and the Paul and Timothy Mentoring Ministry. He was a teacher in Children's Church.

Landon was a prayerful Deacon and loved Pastor Bottoms and his Beulah Family. He was an avid fisherman and loved working with computers, video games, helping people, studying the word, listening to gospel music and the preached word. He was being about his Father's business.

In addition to his wife and children, he is survived by two brothers, Rev. Ollie Gray III (Cynthia), Waterbury, Connecticut and Morris Weatherly, Birmingham, Alabama, two sisters, Jacqueline McCray (Garry) and Brenda McKinnon (Gerald) of Poughkeepsie, NY and his family in love the Paquet's, and a host of uncles, aunts, nephews, nieces, cousins, friends and co-workers.

Celebration of Life Services will be held at Beulah Baptist Church, 92 Catharine Street, Poughkeepsie, NY on Friday, April 5, 2013. Family and Friends Gathering 10am-11am, Homegoing Services at 11am with the Rev, Jesse V. Bottoms, Jr. officiating. Interment will be at the Poughkeepsie Rural Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in memory of Landon to the Beulah Baptist Church Paul and Timothy Youth Ministry.
