Beacon - James Joseph Curtin, a Beacon resident for six years, formerly of Yonkers, died at Vassar Brothers Medical Center in Poughkeepsie on Wednesday, April 10, 2013. He was 82.
Son of the late Patrick and Elizabeth Curtin, he was born in the Bronx on November 30, 1930. He was a U.S. Navy Veteran and served during the Korean Conflict. Throughout his entire life, James worked in the textile industry in New York City.
He was a member of St. Mary, Mother of the Church in Fishkill and belonged to the Senior Group at Mosholu Montefiore Community Center in the Bronx. He was a fitness enthusiast, and could be found working out at Gold's Gym every day. James was also an adept artist and animal lover.
Above all, he was totally immersed in the wellbeing of his family, and devoted much of his life to caring for his loved ones in need of support and assistance.
He is survived by two sisters, Eileen Madeo of Poughkeepsie and Elizabeth Broderick of Fishkill; two sisters-in-law, Dorothy Curtin of Yonkers and Barbara Curtin of Florida; also 13 nieces & nephews and 18 great-nieces & great-nephews.
James was predeceased in death by a sister, Patricia Curtin, and two brothers, Peter & Edward Curtin.
Calling hours will be from 4 to 8 p.m. on Friday, April 12 at the McHoul Funeral Home of Fishkill, Inc., 1089 Main Street, Fishkill. A Mass of Christian Burial will be offered at 1 p.m. on Saturday, April 13 at St. Mary, Mother of the Church, 106 Jackson Street, Fishkill. Interment will be at the convenience of the family.
