Althea Wilhelm Obituary
Hyde Park - Althea C. Wilhelm, 98, a local resident since 1933 and formerly of New York City, died Sunday, April 14, 2013 at Vassar Brothers Medical Center in Poughkeepsie.
Born in New Haven, Connecticut on April 19, 1914, she was the daughter of the late Emily Daly and George F. Moore. She was educated in NY City schools.
Althea was employed by the NY Telephone Company for 43 years, until her retirement in 1976. She was a member of the Telephone Pioneers of America, a volunteer at St. Francis Hospital, and member of the St. Francis Hospital Auxiliary.
She was a communicant of St. Peter's Church, Poughkeepsie.
Mrs. Wilhelm loved music and dancing.
In June 1934 at St. Mary's Church in Poughkeepsie, she married Eric Wilhelm. Mr. Wilhelm predeceased her in 1983.
She is survived by her daughter, Gay Russell of Hyde Park; son, Wayne R. Wilhelm and wife, Deborah, of Chattanooga, TN; seven grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren.
In addition to her parents and husband, she was predeceased by her sister, Patricia Crispell.
In lieu of flowers, the family respectfully requests memorial donations to the Catholic Near East Welfare Association, 1011 First Ave., New York, NY 10022 (www.cnewa.org)
In keeping with her wishes, cremation has taken place. A memorial service will be held at a later date.
Arrangements are under the direction of Sweet's Funeral Home, Inc., Rte. 9, Hyde Park.

Althea was such a positive person! When I was growing up working at Coppolas, I looked forward to her visits with her friends and family. She and Mrs. Pedatella would come at least weekly for a late lunch. Always a smile, always a genuine interest and caring about everyone she met and got to know. She was a gem and will be missed by all who knew her.
