Rhinebeck - Elizabeth 'Gloria' Horan Heimers Keenan, 89, passed quietly surrounded by family at her home on Tuesday, April 23, 2013, after a brief illness.
She was born March 10, 1924 in Elmhurst, Queens, the daughter of Thomas and Margaret (Mahoney) Horan.
Before moving to Rhinebeck, NY in 2006, Mrs. Keenan was a member of the Mercy Hospital Guild, and a parishioner of St. Edward the Confessor Roman Catholic Church in Syosset, where she was also a member of the Altar Society. While living in Rhinebeck she has been an active member of the senior community and the Good Shepherd Church.
While living in Syosset she was a truant officer at Syosset High School.
She was predeceased by her son Eugene T. Heimers, III, and her husbands Eugene T. Heimers, Jr. and James F. Keenan.
Mrs. Keenan is survived by her loving children, Elizabeth Heimers Garrity and her husband Richard of Lowell, Ma; Nancy Heimers DelaMotte and her husband Edward of Wyckoff, NJ; and Patricia Heimers Dantzic and her husband Daniel of Red Hook, NY, her grandchildren Brian Garrity of Brooklyn, Colleen Garrity Scarola and Kevin Garrity of Philadelphia, Edward DelaMotte Jr. of Medfield, MA, Timothy DelaMotte of Chicago, Simon Dantzic and Elizabeth Dantzic of Red Hook, NY; her great grandchildren Owen and Keira Scarola, Sloane Faye Garrity and Aaron Ippoliti; and her step-sons James Jr., and Raymond George Keenan; and their families. She is also survived by her sister Margaret Brown of The Woodlands, TX, and ten nieces and nephews. Her sister Alice Marley also predeceased her.
Calling Hours are Thursday April 25th , 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 PM at Dapson Chestney Funeral Home, 51 West Market Street, Rhinebeck, New York. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Friday, 11AM, at Good Shepherd Church, 94 East Market St., Rhinebeck. Interment in Holy Rood Cemetery will be at the convenience of the family.
