HOPEWELL JUNCTION - Elizabeth Ann Bailey, 84, a lifelong area resident, died on Friday, April 26, 2013 at St. Francis Hospital.
Born in Beacon on December 22, 1928, she was the daughter of Edward and Mae Weisner Griffin. She was the youngest of three sisters including Jean Hammond of Frederick, MD and Dorothy Barrett who predeceased her. Betty was employed as a medical secretary for the Hopewell Medical Group for more than 30 years until her retirement in 1990. She was a member of the Hopewell Reformed Church where she was also a member of the Christ Care, Moving On and Extended Care Groups. Betty was also a member of the Wednesday Club.
On September 26, 1948 at St. Luke's Church in Beacon, Betty married George Curtis Bailey who predeceased her on May 5, 2005. Betty and George shared many interests including bowling and golf. They enjoyed traveling and entertaining. She especially loved baking and sharing her special desserts. But, most of all, she loved her family and dear friends. She is survived by her sons, Stephen G. Bailey of Hopewell Junction, Wayne C. Bailey and his wife Lenore of Highland, and Timothy H. Bailey and his wife Linda of Hopewell Junction; her grandchildren, Kristen M. Bailey and Lou Coletta of West Haven, CT, Daniel S. and Barbara Bailey of Charleston, SC, William J. and Jeannette Lown of Verbank, Joseph P. Bailey of Hopewell Junction, Brian T. Bailey and Kaitrin Sheridan of Syracuse, Timothy J. Bailey of Hopewell Junction, and Airman First Class Christopher G. Bailey (USAF); her great-grandchildren, Gavin and Declan Bailey of Charleston, SC, Emma Lown of Verbank, Jacob Bailey of Syracuse, and Alessia Coletta of West Haven, CT; and several nieces and nephews.
The family would like to thank the ICU Staff at St. Francis Hospital for their compassionate care for Betty.
Calling hours will be held on Monday from 2-4 and 7-9pm at the McHoul Funeral Home, Inc., 895 Route 82, Hopewell Junction. The funeral service will be held on Tuesday at 11am at the Hopewell Reformed Church, 143 Beekman Road, Hopewell Junction with Rev. Taylor Holbrook officiating. Interment will follow in the Hopewell Cemetery.
