Poughkeepsie - James (Dimitrios) Galanos, 85 years old and an area resident since 1952, died on Tuesday, April 30, 2013 at Vassar Brothers Medical Center. He was born on August 22nd, 1927 in Messaria, Greece and was the son of the late Leonidas and Viola Krimizis Galanos.
James worked in the punch press department of the Schatz Federal Bearings Company for many years until his retirement in 1991. He also worked part-time with his two sons at their company; Paramount Amusement and Vending Co. He was a loving family man and will be surely be missed by all who knew him. He enjoyed traveling, the outdoors, and working around his house. He was a member of the Kimisis Greek Orthodox Church; Poughkeepsie, New York 12601.
He is survived by his loving wife, Kleo Manolakes Galanos, who survives at home. James is also survived by his two beloved sons; Louis and his wife, Suzanne of Hyde Park, Nicholas of Pleasant Valley, a brother Paleologos, a sister, Marica Drimocropoulas, both of Messaria, Greece, his cherished grandchildren; Louis Jr. and Nicole, and many other nieces, nephews, and family friends. In keeping with his wishes, there will be no calling hours. There will be a graveside service at 1:00 PM on May 6, 2013 at the Poughkeepsie Rural Cemetery, 342 South Avenue, Poughkeepsie, New York 12601. The Rev. Gregory S. Patsis will be officiating.
