Dorothy Foley

YONKERS - On May 25th, my role in life changed from mother, grandmother, sister, aunt and friend to guardian angel. My year long challenges with cancer ended peacefully.

I was born December 12, 1934 in Queens, New York to Maude and Joseph Peter Foley. My family moved to New Paltz, NY when I was very young. I have fond memories of those years and St. Peter's Elementary School in Rosendale, NY. I graduated high school from Mount Saint Mary's Academy along the Hudson River. I was fortunate because of my training in art and design at the Academy to become a part of an exclusive program of draftsmen and designers in electrical and mechanical design at IBM. This rewarding career was then furthered in General Electric Company, Syracuse, NY.

I devoted the next twenty years of my life to raising my three children, Maribeth, John and James in Cazenovia, NY. I loved those busy years with my wonderful children. During that time I owned a wholesale jewelry company, Sea Gems Distributors. I also served as President of the Van Dyne Home and Hospital in Syracuse for 17 years, Chairman of the Cazenovia Children's Program and Vice President of the Syracuse Federation of Women's Clubs. These were years filled with memorable friendships, children's activities, projects for the community and growth in my business.

The final chapter of my life commenced with the completion of my college degree at Concordia College, Bronxville, NY, Bachelor of Science, Magna Cum Laude. I then became Dean of Student Management, Briarcliffe College, Long Island, NY. Following that I was privileged to work in similar capacities at Kathryn Gibbs School, New York City and the International Academy of Design and Technology, Chicago, IL. I completed my professional career assisting college students and their families at the College of Westchester, White Plains, NY. My professional career was very rewarding and fulfilling to me.

My greatest joy has been my amazing grandchildren, James and Katie Pavelchak of Cazenovia, NY, children of my daughter Maribeth, and Savannah and Jack Pavelchak of North Babylon, NY, children of my son James. I am pre-deceased by my brother Joseph P. Foley, Jr. formerly of Yorktown Heights, NY. I leave behind two sisters and brothers-in-law, Elizabeth and Carl Hoffman of Kingston, NY and Bernadette and Robert Longfield of Farmington, CT, many nieces and nephews, as well as wonderful friends and co-workers.

My heartfelt thanks to all the people at West Med Medical Group of White Plains, Jansen Hospice Palliative Care of Westchester and Calvary Hospice Hospital in the Bronx.

A memorial mass and celebration of Dorothy's life will be held at Mohonk Mountain House, New Paltz, NY, June 10th at noon.

In lieu of flowers, Dorothy has requested an act of kindness be offered up in her memory.
