Clarence (Cal) Baker

Poughkeepsie - Clarence Daniel Baker, 75 Town of Hyde Park died at home on July 2nd 2013 surrounded by his family.

Cal was born in Highland on March 12th 1938, the second of four children to Eleanor J (Stokes) Quick and the late Alfred S Baker. He was educated in Ulster County. He attended Devry Technical Institute in Chicago before joining the US Army in a special unit for 4 years. He was stationed for over 3 years in West-Berlin during the Cuban Missile Crisis and was present at JFK's famous visit. He loved the city and Germany.

In 1965 Cal joined IBM Poughkeepsie Field Engineering Division and retired as Advisory Engineer after 30 years. He then worked for Aerocom USA for 6 years until he became a full time volunteer for many organizations.

On May 9th 1964 at St. Josef Church in Viersen Germany he married the love of his life, Helga Prinzen, who survives at home. In addition to his wife and mother he is survived by his children, Mark Baker of Rhinebeck and Dina Fauci and her husband Michael of Hyde Park. He was a kind and fun Opa to his grandchildren, Stephanie, Michael and Katie Fauci.

Cal loved his family above all. He was a generous friend who easily shared his love of life and his gifts with others. He was a member of Germania of Poughkeepsie where he volunteered many hours in a club he loved. His death is mourned by his nieces, nephews, cousins and close friends here, in Germany and Austria. The family would like to express sincere thanks to Allen and Judy Preston and other very close friends for their help and support. Besides his father, Cal was predeceased by his siblings Alfred, Richard and Patricia Baker, and his stepfather Edward Quick.

Arrangements are being handled by Joseph J. Darrow Sr. Funeral Home. (845)452-1840. In staying with Cal's wishes there are no calling hours and cremation has taken place.

A Memorial Service will take place on Saturday July 6th 2013 at 11am at Germania of Poughkeepsie Inc 37 Old DeGarmo Rd. Poughkeepsie, NY 12603.
