Ruth Kane

Germantown, NY - Ruth Kane, 82, of Germantown, N.Y., passed away at Northern Dutchess Hospital on July 15, 2013. Ruth Eva Kilmer was born at N.D.H. on April 6, 1931, one of eight children born to Harvey and Clara Kilmer. Ruth was a waitress at The Beekman Arms for 13 years. She also worked at these other businesses in Rhinebeck- A.L. Stickle's Five and Dime, the Kopper Kettle, and the Grand Union. Ruth loved to play BINGO, in fact, when she could, she would play seven nights a week. But what she loved most, and what she is most remembered for, was her baking. Apple, Blueberry, Strawberry-Rhubarb, and Peach Pies, to name a few, were loved by all. Cookies? Giant Chocolate Chip, tasty Peanut Butter, soft and chewy Molasses, and scrumptious Sugar cookies were the norm. And then there were the cakes- from the so moist and tasty coffee cake to the cherry covered cheese cake, and everything in between. And, as a very good friend of hers said, The Brownies! In fact there was a time when baking was her main job… she would bake all week and sell the baked goods at the market on the weekend.

Ruth married Frank J. Kane on Dec. 23, 1949. Frank passed away on August 26, 2011. Ruth is survived by her four children, Elizabeth(Betty) Ann Jones and husband Jay of Gold River, California; Frank, now living in Orlando, Florida; Diana(Dede)and husband Don Behn of Valatie, NY and David and wife Christine of Tivoli, NY. She has six grandchildren- Erica and Daniel Kane; Jessica and Christopher Barberi; Benjamin and Jillian Smith and many nieces and nephews. She is also survived by her sisters; Virginia Lasher and Jacqueline Brightly, and brothers Howard (Pete) Kilmer and Leonard Kilmer. She was predeceased by brothers Raymond and George Kilmer, Robert Kelly, and sister Beatrice.

As per her wishes, there will be no viewing hours. A Memorial service will be held 4 pm Friday, July 19,2013 at the Yadack-Fox Funeral Home in Germantown, N.Y.
