James S. Taranta
Highland - James S. Taranta 92, a lifelong resident of Highland passed away on September 14, 2013.
Mr. Taranta worked for Delaval as a Vulcanizer and most recent up until his retirement he was a carpenter for the NYS Carpenters Union local 279 in Hopewell Jct., NY.
He was a WWII Navy Veteran. He served during the Liberation American era. He served on the USS Eberle and Ess Doyle C. Barnes. Mr. Taranta received WWII Victory Medal, Asian Pacific Medal, African European Medal and Phillippine Medal. He was honorably discharged.
Mr. Taranta was a member of the American Legion Post 193 and St. Augustine Roman Catholic Church both in Highland.
He was born in Fayette County, PA on October 22, 1920. He was the son of Antonio and Mary Vona Taranta.
On July 17, 1948 he married Ella Busick Taranta.
Survivors include his wife Ella Taranta, his sister; Gloria Schopinski, sister in law Joan Taranta, his nephew; Karl Gunn and his wife Cathy and several other nieces and nephews.
He was predeceased by his daughter; Patty Taranta, his sisters; Josephine Vona, Martha Servatius and his brothers; John and Louis Taranta.
There are no calling hours. A graveside service will be held on Thursday September 19th 1:00pm at St. Peter's Cemetery in Poughkeepsie with military honors.
