Arthur "Art" Decker
BANGOR, ME - Arthur "Art" Decker of Monson, Maine passed away peacefully on Saturday, October 19, 2013 at the Maine Veterans Home in Bangor. He was born in Peekskill, New York to Stanley and Ruth Decker on July 17, 1933. He was 80 years old.
Art served in the U.S. Army as a Ranger with the 82nd Airborne division in Fort Bragg, NC and was on active military duty from 1953-1955 during the Korean War, after which he was honorably released. His job was to jump out of airplanes with a parachute!
He was a very active man. He always had to be busy doing something. He loved hunting, fishing, camping, boating, snowmobiling & racing, motorcycles & racing, Nascar, steam engines, trains, planes, working with engines and building model boats and planes. He also spent many countless hours on his John Deere tractor after his retirement! He really enjoyed the outdoors, and was always happiest when he was at his farm.
Art worked for I.B.M. in Poughkeepsie, NY for 30 years. He retired in 1987 and moved to "The Farm" in Monson....Where he had always wanted to be.
He was a beloved father and grandfather, and will be terribly missed by all.
Art is pre-deceased by his mother and father - Stanley and Ruth Decker.
He is survived by his two children - A daughter, Carol Mace and her husband, Jeff of Shirley, ME; A Son, Kenneth Decker of Bolivia, NC; Three siblings - A Brother, Gordon of Austin, TX and his two sisters, Joan and Carol of NC; Six grandchildren - Michael, Ashley, Marissa, Justin, Eric, and Stephanie; Two great grandchildren - Jackson, and Khloe; and many cousins, nephews and nieces.
At Arthur Decker's request, no service will be held.
