Raymond George Tyrrell

Fishkill - Raymond George Tyrrell, a Fishkill resident since 1969 and formerly of Yonkers, died at Vassar Brothers Medical Center in Poughkeepsie on Monday, May 19, 2014. He was 84.

Son of the late Raymond J. and Dorothy (Cole) Tyrrell, he was born in Yonkers on October 20, 1929. From 1947 to 1949, he served in the U.S. Naval Militia. In 1951, he was inducted into the U.S. Army, served for two years and was honorably discharged as a Korean War Veteran in 1953.

For 28 years, Ray owned and operated the Green Room Grill in Yonkers. He then opened a second business, Tyrrell Rug & Carpet Service, and later worked as a monitor for Wappingers Central School District.

He was Past Commander of American Legion Post 203 and member of St. Mary, Mother of the Church in Fishkill.

On March 17, 2013, he was predeceased by Lorraine Juliana Tyrrell, his beloved wife of 60 years.

Survivors include his daughter, Margaret Ann Williams & her husband Alfred of Enfield, CT; his son, Raymond John Tyrrell & his wife Holly of Wappingers Falls; his daughter, Dorothy Villegas & her husband Carl of Beacon; his grandchildren, Aaron Jon & Vanessa Lyn Williams, Allison & Brian Tyrrell, and Valerie & Eric Villegas; his great-grandson, Kaden Alejandro; and his sister, Margaret Palmieri of Amenia.

Calling hours will be held from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. on Thursday, May 22 at the McHoul Funeral Home of Fishkill, Inc., 1089 Main Street, Fishkill. A Mass of Christian Burial will be offered at 10 a.m. on Friday, May 23 at St. Mary, Mother of the Church, 106 Jackson Street, Fishkill. Interment will follow at Fairview Cemetery in Beacon, where the U.S. Army will conduct Military Honors.
