Roger Alberts Obituary

Roger Alberts, 79, of Windmill Pointe in Coralville, died Wednesday, January 27, 2010, at Windmill Manor in Coralville.
Visitation will be Saturday at Lensing's Oak Hill from 9:00 to 10:30 a.m., with the service beginning at 10:30 a.m. Pastor Beverly Marshall Goodell will officiate. Burial will be in the Oak Hill Cemetery in Coralville with military honors. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to the Roger Alberts Memorial Fund.
Roger was born April 14, 1930 in Sheldon, Iowa, the son of Henry & Ruth (Rodgers) Alberts.
Roger was especially proud of his time in the United States Marines where he served as Right Guard -- which is the top man of the company while in basic training. He served from 1951 to 1953. Roger married Doris T. Campbell in 1955 at The Little Brown Church in Nashua, Iowa.
He was also proud of his work as a carpenter. He built several apartment projects in the Iowa City and Coralville area, doing the cement work, building and painting.
Survivors include his son, Ron Alberts (Linda) of Tiffin; three grandchildren, Zach Alberts and Rachel Alberts, both of North Liberty, and Sarah Alberts of Tiffin; and several nieces and nephews.
Roger was preceded in death by his parents, his wife Doris in 1998, two brothers, Stanley and Kenneth Alberts and a sister, Carole Mealhow.
