Mary Larew Obituary

Mary Elizabeth Larew, 59, of Iowa City died suddenly on Jan. 27, 2014.
She was born on May 12, 1954, the daughter of Harold Robert and Dorothy Ann Spencer. Mary graduated from University High School, attended Iowa State University, and earned her Bachelor's Degree from the University of Arizona. Mary's high aptitude with languages led to her interest in studying abroad.
Mary put being a mother and grandmother first. She cared about her friends, was a good listener, enjoyed walks with the family dog, and liked to travel. Mary scored normative data at Pearson and ACT in Iowa City for several years.
Mary is survived by her four children, Hart Larew of Tempe, AZ, and Valerie Larew, Tyler Larew, and Sarah Larew (Eric Schebler) of Iowa City, and grand-daughter Halle Larew. She is also survived by her sisters, Rebecca Spencer (Brian Hagen) of Tucson, AZ, Jennifer Dean (Scott) of Nashville, TN, and Amy Spencer of Iowa City. Mary was preceded in death by her parents.
Memorial services will be held at 7pm Friday, January 31, 2014, at Gay & Ciha Funeral and Cremation Service, where visitation will be from 5 to 7pm Friday. In lieu of flowers a memorial fund has been established in Mary's memory. Online condolences may be sent for her family through the web @ www.gayandciha.com.
