Very sad to learn of the passing of my great friend Gene Spaziani with whom I spent 18 happy years as colleagues at the University of Iowa. Not only was he an excellent scientist, he was also a great chair of the Zoology Department. He leaves a wonderful legacy, but I suspect that what I will remember most is that delightfully mischievous sense of humor and his great honesty. My sympathies to the family, and I hope my affection and respect brings some small measure of consolation.
