Henry Madden Obituary
Iowa City - Henry ("Hank") Madden of Iowa City passed away on December 1, 2017 at the age of 88 years after a long illness. He was born in Detroit to Charles and Helen Madden weeks before the 1929 Crash, and grew up in Minneapolis with his siblings Chuck, Betty (Sister Bianca), John and Patrick.
He is survived by his wife Mary Anne (nee Costello); daughters Lynn Madden and Kathy Madden Williams (Gerry), son Mark Madden (Beverly); 10 grandchildren; stepchildren Annie Braverman (Tom), and Matt, Tim and Nick Volm. He is pre-deceased by his parents, brother Chuck and granddaughter Cate.
Hank was a man of many vocations: Engineer, Corporate Executive, Educator, Historian, and very often Philosopher and Political Commentator. Above all, he was a reliable and loyal friend to all who knew him.
A celebration of his life will be held on December 16th with a Mass of Christian Burial 8:30 am at St. Mary's Church in Iowa City, followed by a non-denominational Memorial Service and Reception at 11:30 am at the Unitarian Universalist Society, 2355 Oakdale Road in Coralville.

Ive worked for the Co-op for many, many years & I voted for Hank every time he ran. He was a great advocate for us, the employees. He was also very aware of affordability & accessibility, especially voicing support for the Market Basket program. He had compassion mixed in with all those money smarts! He just had a heart of gold. Im very sorry to learn of our communitys loss, and I extend my deepest condolences to your whole family.
