Memorial service for Robert Y. Copeland, Sr. age 91, of Frederick, Oklahoma will be at 1:30 P.M., Monday, November 25, 2013, at the First Christian Church with Rev. Jenny Wynn and Robert Y. Copeland, Jr. officiating. Private family burial will be prior to the service in the Frederick Memorial Cemetery under the direction of Jackson Funeral Home. Mr. Copeland passed away Tuesday, November 19, 2013, at the Memorial Hospital & Physician Group in Frederick.

Robert Young "Bob" Copeland, Sr. was born August 14, 1922, in Frederick, Oklahoma to Jefferson Lee and Jim N. (Young) Copeland, Sr. He attended elementary school in Frederick and later transferred to the Western Military Academy in Alton, Illinois, graduating with the Class of 1942. After he graduated from the military academy, he entered the United States Army Air Corp and served in World War II at the rank of Second Lieutenant. He then served stateside during the Korean Conflict. After his honorable discharge, he continued in the United States Air Force Reserve where he was discharged at the rank of Captain. He returned home and worked for the Copeland Buick Agency and Hotel Frederick. On June 2, 1961, he and Mary Frances Smith were united in marriage at Frederick, Oklahoma. During the 70's there was a Lay Witness Mission movement in Frederick and that is where Bob's life was touched and changed forever. He was truly reborn. He served as interim minister for many churches during the years and later served as minister for the First Christian Church in Walters, prior to retirement from the ministry. Bob worked as Advertising Manager and later as General Manager for the Frederick Leader, retiring in 1990. He grew up in the First United Methodist Church and after his marriage he joined the First Christian Church. Bob was an avid sports fan. He enjoyed Oklahoma Sooner Football and the Dallas Cowboys.

Survivors include his wife Mary Frances; two sons, Robert Y. Copeland, Jr. and his wife Rebecca of Carthage, Missouri and Stanton S. Copeland and his wife Dee of Broken Arrow, Oklahoma; a daughter-in-law, Pamala Copeland of Lawton, Oklahoma; six grandchildren, Zachary, Journey and Hannah Copeland of Lawton, Oklahoma, Smith Copeland of Broken Arrow, Oklahoma, Miriam Copeland of Carthage, Missouri and Davis Copeland of Broken Arrow, Oklahoma; three sisters-in-law, Doris Copeland Reifslager of Marble Falls, Texas, Tommye Burke Smith of Moore, Oklahoma and Kathleen Trautman of Oklahoma City; and a host of nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents; one son, Curtis Lee Copeland; one brother, Jefferson Lee "Jeff" Copeland, Jr.; and two sisters, Katherine (Copeland) Curtis and Jane (Copeland) Cleage.

Memorial Contributions may be made to the First Christian Church in Frederick or to the donors choice in memory of Robert Y. "Bob" Copeland, Sr.
