Pendleton, Virginia M.
Binghamton: Virginia M. (Abel) Pendleton, 91, passed away on Saturday, April 27, 2013, at Lourdes Hospital. She was predeceased by her husband, Paul A. Pendleton; parents, Frank & Edna Abel of Elmsford, NY; brother, Raymond Abel, Thornwood, NY; and son-in-law, Roger Eaton, Fabius, NY. She is survived by her daughter, Linda J. Eaton, Fabius, NY; son and his wife, Gary P. and Ellen M. Pendleton, Binghamton, NY; her grandchildren, Eric (Camory) Eaton, DeRuyter, NY, Evan (Terri) Eaton, Fabius, NY, Daniel Pendleton, Euless, TX, Kevin Pendleton, Binghamton, NY; her great-grandchildren, Samuel, Calvin, Timothy, Isaac, Ryan, Jeremy and Cassie; cousin, Helen Mertens, FL; and lifelong friends and neighbors. Jeanie (as she liked to be called) was born in Elmsford, NY, graduated in 1938 from High School and then secretarial business school. She married Paul in September 1940 and moved to Binghamton where they were lifelong residents of the East Side. She was employed at Binghamton North High School as an attendance clerk and then retired from the NY State Dept. of Unemployment Insurance. She was a member of the East Side Congregational Church. Mom was a talented crocheter, who made hundreds of afghans for family and for gifts for many children in the area. Mom was an avid NY Yankees, NY Giants and Syracuse basketball fan. She was always so eager to attend each grandson's sporting events. Mom always had her camera in hand wherever she would go to "take a picture". She had a love of collecting recipes and was an excellent cook and baker. Mom was known by name by several waitresses of many restaurants in the area. She never refused an invitation to eat out and Red Lobster was her favorite place. Mom was a generous and loving mother and grandmother to us all and we will miss her tremendously. The family wishes to acknowledge the wonderful love, care, and friendship extended to Virginia from the staff and friends at The Hearth at Castle Gardens, Vestal, NY, where she lived independently for the past year. Most recently, we express sincere gratitude to the ER staff of Lourdes Hospital and the staff of Lourdes 3 Ross and 1 West for the excellent care this past week. A Funeral Service will be held on Thursday at the THOMAS J. SHEA FUNERAL HOME INC., 137 Robinson St., Binghamton at 11 a.m. Burial will be in Vestal Hills Memorial Park. The family will receive friends at the funeral home on Wednesday from 5 to 7 p.m. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be sent to Lourdes Hospital.

We are deeply sorry for your loss of such a beautiful woman, and mom. She was such a kind and caring soul, a unique individual, who loved to please others. My two young daughters have crocheted baby afghans made by her tender hands. Crocheting was a big part of her life. We have had the fortune of knowing her for such a short time (8 years is a short time)and yet it seems like we have known her forever. She will be greatly missed by us, and many. We are so glad that some parts of her life have touched parts of our lives. We are fortunate. God Bless Virginia as she takes safe passage with her flight on Angels Wings................

Pendleton Family:
I graduated from North over 40 years ago and remember Mrs. Pendleton very well due to my very poor attendance record of my senior year. I saw her a few years back and was stunned that after so many years she remembered my last name! May she RIP and my prayers go out for you & yours during this time.
