Nowak, James R. Binghamton: James R. Nowak , 71 of Binghamton passed away Wednesday, May 6th at home. He was predeceased by his wife, Paulette Nowak; his parents Walter & Nellie Nowak and his brother William Nowak. He was survived by his loving children Kristine & Bryan both of Texas, Greg & Eleanor Nowak of Virginia. James has two very special grandchildren, Sydney & Jagger of Texas. James is survived by one sister, Patricia Jones & her husband Robert and two brothers Walter and wife Sharon Nowak and David and wife Kathy Nowak. His in-laws are Jean & Edward Coolbaugh, Helene Marhefka, Joan & Norm Evans and Richard Chanecka. Jim also has several, nieces, nephews & cousins. The family will receive friends 4-6 PM on Friday, May 22nd at The McDevitt & McManus Funeral Home, LLC. 88 Front Street Binghamton, NY,Burial will be in Calvary Cemetery at the convenience of the family. Arrangements are by AEGIS CREMATION & FUNERAL SERVICES 196 CLINTON STREET, BINGHAMTON, NEW YORK.

Petcosky, Donald  
Petcosky, Donald Donald Petcosky 88, of Binghamton, passed away peacefully on Tuesday May 19, 2015. He is survived by his loving wife of 60 years, Marie and two sons Don (Pam) Petcosky of Vestal, NY; Dennis (Patricia) Petcosky of Windsor, NY. Don served in the US Navy during World War II in the South Pacific aboard the destroyer, USS Dashiell. He was the longtime owner of the East Side Tavern on Robinson St. in Binghamton before retiring. He and Marie spent the last 25 winters at their home in Dade City, FL where he enjoyed golfing with friends and taking regular trips to Biloxi, MS in hopes of hitting it big which never panned out. Don was an avid Met's fan and second guessed every manager they ever had. The family would like to thank the wonderful staff at Binghamton General Hospital for their compassionate care. The family will receive friends on Saturday May 23, 2015 from 12-1:45pm at the THOMAS J. SHEA FUNERALHOME INC. 137 Robinson St. Binghamton, NY. A Memorial Service will follow at 1:45pm. In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation to the charity of your choice.

Prusik, Janet Janet I Prusik (Wilmer) 72, of Johnson City, passed away peacefully on May 16, 2015. She is predeceased by her Father, Harold Wilmer; Brothers, James Wilmer and Joey Wilmer; Son, William Prusik. She is survived by her Husband of 43 years, Edward Prusik; Children, Kathy Prusik (Foxy), Joan Dunham (Joel), Joseph Prusik, Kimberly Hill (Daniel); Grandchildren; Great-grandchildren; Mother, Idah Wilmer; Sisters, Judith Wilmer, Joy Penfield (Aric); Brother, John Wilmer; Sister in-law Nyoka Wilmer; as well as a Niece and Nephew. She is a retired employee of Broome County holding various positions within the county government and then went on to be a substitute teacher for the Johnson City School District. Janet loved spending time going out dancing with her husband, loved cooking and she enjoyed practicing her faith. Most of all, Janet was very kind, compassionate, caring and loved spending time with her grandchildren. She will be dearly missed by all. A Memorial Mass will be offered at St. James Church at 9:30am on Saturday. Burial will be in Vestal Hills Memorial Park at the convenience of the family. Arrangements are with Albert J. DeMarco

Rockwell, Ruth E. Ruth E. Rockwell, 93, went home to be with the Lord on April 26, 2015. She is predeceased by husband, Elmer (Rocky) Rockwell; mother, Mary Ashley; father, John Williams; sister, Eva Snyder; brothers: Frank, Walter, Joe, and John Williams, Gerald, Harold, and Richard Simpson; her daughter, Mary Gritman and granddaughter, Faye Gritman. Ruth is also survived by her children, Barbara (Doug) Fish, Harold (Sharon) Gonyou, Ruth (Lawrence) Hillis, Martha (John) Fairbanks, Beverly Flint, Raymond Moquin and son-in-law David Gritman. Surviving siblings are: Donald Williams, Vera Cummings, Betty Wagstaff, and Robert Simpson. Ruth has numerous nieces and nephews; grandchildren; great grandchildren, and great-great grandchildren and friend Eva York. Visitation will be Saturday May 23, 11:00 - 1:00; Memorial service follows at 1:00 p.m. Both will be held at Apalachin Alliance Church, 293 Tobey Rd, Apalachin. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Hospice or a local animal shelter.

Sandiford, Michael  
Sandiford, Michael Michael Joseph Sandiford, 58, of Long Lake, NY passed away at home on Saturday May 16 just weeks after a probable diagnosis of the rare Creutzfeldt-Jakob disease. Born in Massena, NY to George and Patricia (Spellman) Sandiford, Mike grew up in Massena, Richmond, Baltimore, and Binghamton. He was predeceased by his father in 1992. Mike graduated from Binghamton Catholic Central High School and attended Plattsburgh State University. He left college studies to pursue a career in food service and restaurant management in Florida. There he held positions at Red Lobster and Marriott before managing various private restaurants and nightclubs. In 1993, Michael moved to Long Lake, NY to open his own restaurant which he operated for nine years. In recent years he has been employed by New York State as a caregiver for developmentally disabled adults at a day facility in Long Lake. Mike's compassionate and cheerful approach to work enriched the lives of those with special needs who were in his care. Michael will be missed as a treasured husband, father, stepfather, son, brother, mentor, and friend. His laughter and smiles touched the heart of each person he came in contact with. He will be remembered for his kindness to all, his spontaneous sense of humor, his loyalty to friends and devotion to family, and his love of Long Lake and the Adirondack Mountains. Cherished friends arrived from near and far to comfort Mike in his final weeks. Michael is survived by his mother, Patricia; his wife, Alexis; daughters Syana and Rhiannon Sandiford; stepchildren Jade Jackson, Mandy Mandel, and Joel, Michael, and Seth Hart; and five step grandchildren. He is also survived by his brothers Peter, David, Jim (Caroline Hanover), William (Victoria), and Daniel Sandiford; sisters Julie (Tom) Helms, Laurie Sandiford (John Hlavaty), Mary Ann Sandiford (Anthony Day), and Elizabeth (Leo) O'Connor; nephews and nieces Tommy, Andrew, and Tim Helms, Peter Day, David Sandiford, Leo, Julia, and Nora O'Connor, and Emmett and Henry Sandiford; and several grand nieces and nephews. A funeral Mass will be held Thursday May 21 at St. Henry's Church, Long Lake, NY at 3 p.m. Calling hours will be from 1 p.m. to 3 p.m., immediately preceding Mass at St. Henry's. Arrangements are handled by the Stuart-Fortune-Keough Funeral Home in Tupper Lake, NY. The family will be grateful for donations in Michael's memory to the Creutzfeldt-Jakob Disease Foundation, 341 W 38th St, Suite 501, NY NY 10018, or the National Prion Disease Pathology Surveillance Center (NPDPSC), Case Western Reserve University, 2085 Adelbert Road, Cleveland, Ohio.

Shultz, Todd A. Todd A. Shultz passed away peacefully on February 27, 2015. He is survived by his wife, Sue; 3 children, Nichole (Stephen), Robert & Alexis (Daniel); 3 grandbabies, Alyza, Rion & Reed, 4 sisters, 2 brothers; also several nieces, nephews and friends. In memory of Todd A. Shultz, we will be having a celebration of life, as well as a small military service at his home in Lisle, NY (301 Owen Hill Rd). It will be held on June 20, 2015 at 1 pm. Smetana, Alice E. (Stockholm) Alice E. (Stockholm) Smetana of Binghamton, was born in Montrose, PA., on January 28, 1921. She passed away peacefully at home on Monday, May 18, 2015. Alice was predeceased by her parents, Ira & Cora Mae Stockholm, seven siblings and her daughter, Virginia. Alice is survived by her loving husband of 64 years Bill, her daughter, Julia Rowland, sister-in-law, Helen Smetana, five grandchildren, six great grandchildren and two great great grandchildren also many nieces and nephews. Alice and Bill lived in or traveled through all fifty states. She was a tournament class bowler and an avid golfer. Alice did not give up golf until she was 90! Alice and Bill did many wonderful things together; going out to eat, golfing together, playing bridge and going to casinos. Alice will be missed by all who knew her, especially her loving family. A Funeral service will be held on Friday, May 22, 2015 at 11:00 AM at the Wm. R. Chase & Son Funeral Home 737 Chenango St. Port Dickinson, NY 13901. Burial will follow at the Chenango Valley Cemetery. Family and friends may call at the funeral home on Thursday, May 21, 2015 from 4:00-7:00 PM.
